COUNCIL CUT FUNDING BUT LOCAL PEOPLE CONTINUE THEIR SUPPORT
The Cyrenians are pleased to announce today they raised over £300,000 in voluntary income during the last financial year. This is thanks to the continuing generous support of the local community.
This income goes towards funding those services not currently funded in any way by Aberdeen City Council. The drop in centre is currently funded by the council between the hours of 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, but to provide support to people during the weekend and some evenings, we rely on voluntary income to do so. Voluntary income is essential to provide support to homeless people when everyone else has left work and gone home to their families and loved ones.
Fundraising and Communications Manager Amy Grant today thanked all those who have provided support in the last year. "I am delighted at this news, and would like to thank all those who have given us their support. It has been a challenging time for us recently and the hard work we have put in over the last twelve months means that we can continue to provide additional support to the clients within those projects that will stay open despite recent council funding cuts".
This year the Cyrenians will rely more than ever on voluntary income to go towards providing vital services to the homeless and vulnerable in Aberdeen. They are urging to the local community to continue their support of the valuable services offered by the Cyrenians.
The Cyrenians will continue to fight against the proposed funding cuts that will force the closure of four projects and see thirty staff lose their jobs.
