The Community Resettlement, Support & Advice Service (CRSAS) provides a city wide gateway service for those seeking support and advice for issues relating to their homelessness or where they are at risk of losing their accommodation.

It provides support to vulnerable people to assist them to access and/or maintain suitable accommodation through a combination of interventions with the primary aims of resettlement, tenancy sustainment, alleviation of the impacts of homelessness and other associated factors, and enhancement of quality of life.

It is partly registered as a housing support service with the Care Commission and is accredited with HomePoint in relation to the Scottish National Standards for Information and Advice (Type II in 13 areas).

Services Offered:

Comprehensive assessment and integrated care planning, this has to be in conjunction with identified professionals e.g. Care Manager, Social Worker, Health Care staff

Service User Profile:

The CRSAS is available to those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and particularly those considered to be a vulnerable people - including those sleeping rough and those in temporary/insecure accommodation:

  • where there is a high risk of family breakdown or breakdown has occurred
  • who have significant health problems (including mental health or substance misuse) with a risk to safety or independence
  • whose existing care arrangements have broken down or are at risk of breaking down placing the person at risk
  • whose involvement in work, training or education cannot be maintained
  • where abuse or neglect has occurred or may occur
  • who are making the transition from being "looked after and accommodated"
  • Individuals who demonstrate a commitment to engage with the service, including to maintain their tenancy and identify their independent living skills
  • Who are eligible for housing and to receive either directly or indirectly public funds and be entitled to reside in the United Kingdom

The care and support of individuals is determined by an assessment of the service users' needs through which a care plan designed to meet those needs is drawn up. The care plan may identify counselling needs, the need to address substance misuse or mental health issues, behavioural problems and resettlement needs covering the areas identified below.

  • Basic needs (food, shelter & warmth)
  • Housing and homelessness
  • Family issues (including social networks)
  • Lifeskills (cooking, shopping, household tasks, communication with others, etc.)
  • Finance (debts, budgeting, maximising income, etc.)
  • Health (Well-being as well as issues such as substance misuse and mental health)
  • Criminal justice issues
  • Improving employability (activities, education, literacy & numeracy, job focus, IT, etc.)
  • Social work issues
  • Risk factors
Service users utilise the service as determined by their assessment of needs.

Service users are all be over the age of 16 and a level of priority is given to those in the 16 - 26 year age group.
