About Us
Thank you for your interest in the work of the Cyrenians.
The Cyrenians was established in 1968. Over the last 40 years the range of services offered by the Cyrenians has grown considerably. Originally just providing food and shelter, the services in 2008 aim to meet all the varying needs of people affected by homelessness in Aberdeen and the surrounding area.
These services focus on:
-
Prevention of homelessness - through advice, information and education programmes
-
Alleviation of homelessness – at our day centre and in 40 places short-term accommodation
-
Rehabilitation – tackling underlying issues such as alcohol, drugs, mental health and abuse
-
Resettlement – practical help to gain employment, to learn the skills needed to live in the community and to sustain a tenancy
Our staff works very hard to support clients to meet their basic needs and realise their potential. People can rely on staff for support, advice, practical assistance or even just a listening ear – no one will be turned away.
The Cyrenians currently have three residential projects; three Cyrenians Supported Accommodation Services (CSAS) of individual flats; a Community Resettlement, Support & Advice Service (CRSAS) which includes a day centre; and the Integrated Community Drug Rehabilitation Service (ICDRS). We cater for specific groups of homeless people including 16-25 year olds who have left care, young single people in crisis, rough sleepers, older people and women of all ages.
We believe that if you give a bed to someone in need of a home, a meal to someone hungry, or shelter and warmth to someone cold then their problems will be only resolved in the short-term, but if we give someone who has not had a fair chance in life time to express their problems and give them understanding, caring advice, new opportunities and life and work skills, then they will have a real chance to lay foundations which will enable them to contribute positively to society in the long term.
