Anne - Case Study

"Anne had experienced many years of domestic abuse before fleeing the marital home. At the point that Anne was referred to the Woman's Issues Worker, she had just been allocated her new tenancy. Anne was overwhelmed by the prospect of setting up a new home for herself, having never lived on her own before. Anne was also anxious that her husband might find out her new address and would again be subjected to abuse by him.

Anne was supported through this period being offered advice, someone to talk to and practical help to settle into her new tenancy. The worker ensured that Anne’s flat was made secure; increasing Anne’s feeling of safety. The Worker accessed funding to provide her with a mobile phone to contact emergency services and keep in contact with family members.  Anne attended a pampering day with The Cyrenians’ Women’s Group. Anne spoke about how much of ‘a boost’ this has given her, and how she felt more confident in herself.

Through regular 1 to 1 support, Anne began to gain self-confidence, and look to the future.  She decided she was ready to find employment and soon gained a part-time job, giving her a real sense of achievement."
