Billy - Case Study
"When Billy first presented at the Community Resettlement Support & Advice Service (CRSAS) he was angry, aggressive, demanding and frightening to staff and the other clients. His personal apperance was dirty because he had been sleeping rough and he complained and shouted about everyone and everything. Billy decided he was going to set up camp in the grounds of the Summer Street Project and began storing large quantities of items to build a makeshift shelter.
The staff team worked very hard to try to get Billy to interact positively with them and to try to get him to understand that it was not appropriate to ‘live’ in the grounds of the project. Due to Billy’s emotional situation, this was a very difficult process. Things came to a head and Billy eventually broke down and opened up to staff about his life and difficulties that he was facing.
Substantial support was offered to Billy. He was supported through medical treatment and eventually was offered a tenancy by the local authority. He is really delighted with the turnaround in his life. Billy is now enrolled on an Open University course and is about to attend a week’s residential visit to Normandy as part of that course. He now lives in his own flat but continues to come to the Project from time to time."

"Now I feel I can go for it and do it. I felt I was not a full person and did not fit into society, I was damaged and now I am beginning to feel good in myself."
