George - Case Study
"George and his brother took over a joint tenancy agreement of the family home in Aberdeen after their parents seperated. Due to the brothers being imprisoned at different times, which was caused by the chaotic lifestyle they were both living, and a dependancy on heroin, a joint application for housing benefit was not made and they accrued a large amount of rent arrears. Both George and his brother were evicted from the home they had lived at since birth in 2004 and became homeless.
George moved into a tenancy at the Cyrenians Supported Accomodation Service (CSAS) in 2005. The staff team have worked regularly with George in assisting him to achieve personal goals set within support plans. George has also been supported in sustaining his tenancy, budgeting, dealing with correspondence and housekeeping. His commitment to engaging with staff has enabled him to develop skills relevant to maintaining and sustaining a tenancy. George has been assisted to access specialist services and is now on a reducing methadone prescripion.
George has a monthly repayment plan in place to pay off housing and council tax arrears from his previous tenancy. He used staff support to deal with all correspondence and recently moved into his own tenancy. The confidence and skills that he developed are now being used as a mentor within a community group to assist others towards a more stable lifestyle."
