Grab a cardboard box, rally your friends, family and colleagues, and get ready for a good ol’ Christmas sing-song!
Aberdeen Cyrenians’ 12 Days of Christmas Sing-a-long Collection Challenge has launched this week, and we are asking you, our valued supporters, to set aside a number of much needed items throughout the run-up to Christmas and donate these to us before the big day.
By giving items like ten spray deodorants, four hats and scarves and a pen and a diary, you will be ensuring all our service users have a shoebox gift to open on Christmas Day.
Other gifts like tins of custard and packs of beans will be used in the food parcels and hot meals delivered through our Direct Access scheme, meaning your donations will be feeding some of the most vulnerable people in Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire.
Chloe Bartlett, Volunteer Co-ordinator said:
‘The festive period can be a sad, distressing and lonely time for someone who is homeless or experiencing hardship, and we want to do everything we can to make sure our service users have an enjoyable Christmas.
‘We depend entirely on donations to put our shoebox gifts together, and they really lift people’s spirits, as they may be the only gift someone gets this Christmas.
‘We also open our building for a few hours every day over the festive holiday and this provides a safe, warm, comfortable place for people who may not have anywhere else to go, and guarantees them a hot meal every day, as well as access to shower and laundry facilities’.
Bryony Shepherd, Community Fundraiser said:
‘This year, we’d also love to see people doing their collections – and singing our special Christmas song.
‘We’d encourage everyone – office teams, community groups, churches, friends and families – to spread a little Christmas joy, burst into song, and share this with us via Facebook and Twitter.
‘Christmas is a time for giving and celebrating – and there’s no better way to do this than in song’.
The items we urgently require this Christmas are:
- A pen and a diary
- Two packs of cards
- Three lip balms
- Four hats and scarves
- Five tins of beans
- Six pairs of boxers
- Seven bars of chocolate
- Eight tins of custard
- Nine tubes of hand cream
- Ten spray deodorants
- Eleven packs of tissues
- Twelve pots of noodles
Sound familiar? We hope so!
