When the world changed, we changed too.
We talk to our colleagues via video now. We Facetime our family and friends on Friday nights. We type ‘I love you’ into our group chats and send a virtual hug. We don’t browse supermarket aisles. We don’t sit on park benches. We don’t touch, and feel, and live like we used to.
For people who are homeless, rough sleeping and in crisis, these changes to everyday life have been pronounced and devastating. Moving your life indoors when you don’t have a permanent address is difficult; staying connected when you don’t have a device is impossible; surviving abuse or battling your mental health, alcohol and substance issues alongside coronavirus anxiety is utterly overwhelming.
Since lockdown, there’s been a rise in the number of people living in poverty, an increase in those living in temporary accommodation, and evidence that suggests many are living in a situation that they know is dangerous, and are too scared to leave.

I'm Thinking Of You... FAQs
What is I'm Thinking Of You...?
I’m Thinking Of You... is a letter writing campaign being run by Aberdeen Cyrenians.
We are currently running a frontline COVID-19 support service alongside our fantastic partners Aberdeen Foyer, CFINE and Social Bite, delivering food, baby essentials, toiletries and clothes to people who are self-isolating and in dire need.
We know that lots of the people we are working with are struggling with loneliness, separation and social disconnection, and wanted to do something to make sure these people know they are still being thought about.
What do I need to do?
Write a message, draw a picture, share a quote that you love.
It’s important to stay connected during this challenging time, and letting someone know that you care about them can brighten their day, and yours.
If you would like to share artwork, please email this to firstname.lastname@example.org
Where will my letter end up?
Aberdeen Cyrenians are a local charity, based in Aberdeen.
Your letter will be distributed via our daily delivery service AC2U covering homes in and around the city.
When will my letter be delivered?
Once we have received your letter it will be reviewed by our team, and then printed and dispatched as soon as possible.
We imagine this will take between 2 – 4 days.
Who will receive my letter?
Your letter will be delivered to someone receiving help from AC2U.
This may be someone who is living in temporary accommodation with only a microwave, fridge, bed and mattress; an elderly person who hasn’t been outside for months or a family who are scared and staying indoors.
Your message will show them that they haven’t been forgotten.
Why should I write a letter?
This letter may be the only form of contact the recipient has had for days, maybe even weeks, and should help them feel less alone.
We want to ensure that everyone stays physically and mentally well during this challenging time. Taking a moment to think about another person and send some well wishes can really boost everyone’s spirits!
I'm a teacher or youth leader, how can I get my class or group involved?
You can set the letter writing as an assignment and collect the letters together to submit or ask pupils to submit their own letters via the submission form.
If you would like to submit your collected letters together, please click here to send us an email.
What sort of thing should I write?
It’s really up to you, but if you’d like some suggestions how about:
- Introducing yourself and sharing some of your favourite things.
- Writing a fun and uplifting story.
- Sharing recipes or recommendations for things to do inside.
- Drawing a nice picture of somewhere in Aberdeen you’d like to go once lockdown is lifted.
We sometimes find the best way to do things like this is to think about what you would like someone to say to you if you were receiving this letter, and let your creativity flow.
